University of Akron head men's soccer coach Caleb Porter was named National Coach of the Year for NCAA Division I at the 2010 National Soccer Coaches Association Convention.

Of all the 203 Division I teams, none was more dominant in 2009 than Porter's Zips. Akron led the nation in goals per game (2.32) and goals-against-average (0.27 GAA) as the consensus No. 1-ranked team for the final nine weeks of the regular season. Additionally, Akron established these milestones while playing the most difficult schedule in the country with the nation's No. 1-ranked RPI in the final regular-season release.

Since taking over in 2006, Porter has taken the Zips' program to unprecedented heights. During his tenure, Akron has posted an overall record of 68-12-8 (.818) overall and 20-1-1 (.932) in Mid-American Conference play. Moreover, since 2005 UA has logged the highest winning percentage in the nation, going 86-13-12 (.829).

Porter's Zips have claimed four straight MAC regular-season championships, three straight MAC Tournament titles and qualified for the NCAA Tournament in each of the last three seasons, culminating in last Sunday's appearance in the national championship game.

Porter is a three-time MAC Coach of the Year (2007, 2008, 2009) and a two-time NCAA Division I All-Ohio Coach of the Year (2008, 2009).

Jared Embick

Jared Embick was promoted to the position of associate head coach after completing his third season at Akron last fall. Embick's primary responsibilities on the staff include recruiting, scouting, game-day preparation and video analysis.

During Embick's time at Akron, the Zips have posted an overall record of 55-7-7 (.848), including a 16-0-1 (.971) mark in league play, while also securing three straight conference tournament titles and as many trips to the NCAA Tournament.

Additionally, UA recruits have garnered nationally acclaim during his stay. Akron secured the top recruiting class in the nation in 2009 after earning a No. 5 designation for '08. 

Oliver Slawson

Oliver Slawson was promoted to the position of assistant coach following his third year as a volunteer assistant at Akron last fall.

A native of Manchester, England, Slawson earned his Master of Science in Education at Akron in 2006.
