Tradition of Akron Soccer Camp

Akron soccer has a rich tradition, beginning with its inaugural season
in 1955. Over the course of 53 years, the Zips have seen the program
reach unthinkable heights. Since 2005 Akron Soccer owns the nation’s
best winning percentage of any Division 1 team.

Regarded as one of the top programs in the nation, Akron has made 23 NCAA Tournament appearances, including seven of the last eight seasons. The program has produced 38 All-America selections, with five Zips being named All-Americans over the last three years. Since joining the Mid-American Conference in 1993, the Zips have dominated the league with ten regular-season titles and five MAC Tournament championships. Akron has also been well represented on the All-MAC squads with 90 selections, including a league record, 59 first team picks. In 2007, Akron placed another league record eight players on the All-MAC first team, other awards included MAC Player of the Year Corey Sipos, MAC Newcomer of the Year Steve Zakuani and MAC Coach of theYear Caleb Porter.


A well-respected program on the national level, the Zips have spent
time in the national rankings each of the last five seasons and were the first
team in Mid-American Conference history in any sport to achieve a No.1
national ranking when they held the top spot for four weeks in 2005.
The 2007 season was one to remember as Akron won both the MAC
regular season and tournament championships on the way to being the
#14 seed in The NCAA Tournament and an appearance in the 2nd round.
